Christ's Community Judo is a fun, therapeutic, family friendly, martial art designed to teach self defense, coordination, balance, respect, confidence, teamwork, friendly competition, sportsmanship and fellowship. Judo is great for lifetime fitness and all ages are welcome (5+).
This is a ministry of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church.
Judo is not about punching and kicking and will not teach you how to "fight", but will teach you to defend yourself.
Judo is more than just a sport, a set of complex physical skills, or even an art form. Judokas are expected to exhibit good attitude and behavior. Judo students benefit from increased balance and coordination, strength, better posture, self defense skills and a firm but relaxed sense of confidence. The founder of Judo, Jigoro Kano, emphasized that Judo is ultimately aimed at shaping better people and better members of society. Etiquette, respect, and proper behavior are required. Physical, mental, and social skills are all developed together when learning Judo.

There is no fee to attend any of the classes offered. Once a prospetive student decides to join there are dues of $10 per month. Students will need to join prior to receiving rank advancement. The student will also need to have their own uniform prior to promotion but may borrow one until they are able to obtain one. Uniforms vary in price, but are approximately $50 to $80 dollars depending on size and color ordered. Used Gi's are often available at significant savings. Gi sales also help support the club. We also have a guide book that students will need in order to advance in rank which included in the fist months dues. Dues cover: Belts, Duct tape (we use at least a roll per class), Student Books, Insurance, Instructor Certifications, Equipment upkeep, and other admin expenses.
All Instructors and staff are 100% volunteer, the club is non-profit, but does have expenses that must be covered.

Programs:
Dragon Program 5-7 yrs. This class is specifically designed for students 5 to 7 years old. Kids will begin to learn physical fitness, run, roll, play games and learn how to fall safely on our excellent, soft, and supportive mats. We do warm up exercises specifically tailored to develop the movements necessary for Judo. We’ll also learn how to count in Japanese, the origins of Judo, and the importance of safety, manners, and respect. Students will learn a few simple and safe Judo techniques and will progress through a series of animal themed belt stickers. This class is designed to be perfect for short attention spans. Upon reaching the age of 8 students will move to the Junior Class. Personal Judo uniforms are necessary for belt advancement, but as with all classes there are loaner uniforms available on a first come first served basis until the student has tried the program out for a few classes.
Junior Program 8-10 yrs. The Jr. Program picks up where the Dragon program ends, or if the student is already 8, this is where they start. Students will continue to work on manners, respect, coordination, balance, agility, and doing drills necessary for Judo. There will be some games, but we will also focus on learning Judo techniques. Students will be able to progress to a Blue Belt in this class, however certain Judo techniques will not be available to them until they are eligible to join the Adult Class at 11 years of age. More advanced students in this age group may also have the opportunity to learn limited striking, such as boxing techniques and some other strikes and self defense. Occasionally this class will participate in field trip type community service activities and/or fundraising opportunities. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in these activities as it shows commitment to Judo, the club, and is helpful to spiritual growth. Personal Judo uniforms are necessary for belt advancement, but as with all classes there are loaner uniforms available on a first come first served basis until the student has tried the program out for a few classes.
Senior Program 11+ yrs. This group will learn about Judo, from the basics to the more advanced techniques. We will work on lifetime physical fitness, develop judo strength, strengthen bones and joints, learn coordination, balance, confidence, and how to fall, throw, and eventually perform joint locks and other Judo/Jujutsu techniques. Opportunities will exist to learn striking and other self defense techniques as well. We will have occasional service and fundraising opportunities in order to grow spiritually and also raise money for the program. Personal Judo uniforms are necessary for belt advancement, but as with all classes there are loaner uniforms available on a first come first served basis until the student has tried the program out for a few classes.
