Regular attendance is very important. Students who do not attend regularly will become frustrated with their slow progress. If you want to progress you have to show up.
Please make an effort to be on time, it is disruptive and disrespectful to the other students to be late. Late students may not be allowed to participate & might not have their classes counted.
Parents please be respectful of the class, keep disruptions to a minimum, conversations quiet, and leave all coaching and instruction to the club instructors. This is for the safety of the students.
Children 10 and under must have a parent /guardian in the building (dojo area/foyer) during classes.
We believe service to others improves students’ character & betters a community. Students are urged to volunteer in their community, we will schedule some of these opportunities as a club. We will also participate in projects and fundraisers for the Judo program.
Parents, if you would like to watch your child(ren) as they learn , we encourage you to sit along the mat quietly. This shows support for your child and will help their learning.
If you need to use the telephone or if you have other children who need to be entertained please stay on-site but consider using the foyer. Please be respectful and and clean up after your children. Music and Videos should be enjoyed with headphones.
Belt advancements are issued by the Sensei’s, according to their judgement, and are based on time and skill. It is the responsibility of the students/ parents to record class attendance. Guide books will be made available to the students.
There are a limited number of Gi’s available to borrow for new students and are on a first come, first serve basis.
If a student needs to miss class for a period of time due to school programs, sports, family health issues, etc. that is fine, but please let us know so we can keep them on the roster. Long absences and lack of communication may result in being un-enrolled.
Older Students do not receive class credit for assisting during younger student classes; this time is considered volunteer time, but is encouraged and very much appreciated, and will help their judo and improve their character and leadership skills.
Students who miss 4+ classes must show proper ukemi (falling) skills before being thrown again.
No jewelry, hard hair pieces, jeans, buckles, shoes, or hard pieces of clothing can be worn on the mat. This is for the protection of the students and our very expensive mats. Plastic Bio-flex type retainers for body jewelry are acceptable.
A normal plain crew neck t-shirt is required to be worn under the Gi Jacket. No collars, V or scoop necklines, buttons, sequins, glitter, beads, etc. No tank tops. Rash guards are OK.
Students must be clean: paying special attention to hands and feet. There must be no long fingernails or toenails, Students must maintain basic hygiene and may be asked to wash or clean themselves as needed.
Bare feet are not allowed OFF the mat. Students must wear shoes such as slides, flip flops, or house shoes when leaving the mat. This is to help protect our mats and keep them clean.
Students are required to be dressed and ready on the mat at the start of class (kiyotsuke).
Students will not be involved in any illegal activity or harmful behavior.
Students will be respectful of the staff, each other, their families, and themselves inside and outside the Dojo. Words/phrases such as “please”, “thank you”, and “excuse me” will be taught/expected.
Students will demonstrate respect to instructors and higher belts, and kindness to everyone at all times.
Students must always TRY, there is no “Can’t” on a Judo mat.
Higher ranking students will always be happy to assist lower ranking students; new students WILL ALWAYS have a partner to work with.
Students will always actively seek to help one another.
Sensei have the right to correct or dismiss a student from any drill, practice, program, or club.
Student discipline will be issued by approved staff members which may include extra judo drills, written assignments, or sit out time.
Although Judo is a martial art, and can be an intense full contact sport, violence and aggression will absolutely not be tolerated. There is no temper on the judo mat.
Students will not leave the mat area unless permission is granted from a Sensei/Staff Member.
Safety is everyone’s responsibility, do not permit unsafe behavior, report all injuries!
Avoid all horseplay and behavior which disturbs or bothers fellow judo players.
If in doubt, always behave in a manner that will bring respect and honor to yourself, your family, the club, and the Lord both inside and outside the Dojo. If you would prefer your Grandmother, Mother, Sensei, or Pastor not see or hear you doing it...don’t.
A Judo uniform is called a Gi or Judo-Gi.
Judo Gi’s are different from other martial art gi’s - other martial arts gi’s will not be allowed.
Karate and Taekwondo gis are not allowed; they are thin and lightweight and therefore unsafe for Judo.
The Gi is a training tool for students and is made to strict safety standards.
We have a limited amount of loaners for the students to borrow for a class.
We try to keep these for new students, so once you commit to joining the club you will need to purchase your own Gi. Generally this is after a month or two, but can be earlier.
Most sizes are available and in stock with us. if not, it usually only takes a week.
If you obtain a Gi from other sources it must be a proper Judo Gi and approved by the Sensei.
Gi sizing is a challenge and is a bit different from brand to brand.
Practice Gi’s may be dyed any color other than Black, which is reserved for Sensei.
Please no Camo or Red Gi’s, this sets the wrong mindset for Judo.
NOTE: When you outgrow your Gi. Please consider donating it back to the judo club.
If we can use it, you will get a discount on your new GI and We will use your old Gi
to add to our Loaner Gi Program
Students are able to advance in belt ranks. The belts are supplied by club dues
